Progestin-only emergency contraceptive pills contain levonorgestrel, either as a single tablet or as a split dose of two tablets taken 12 hours apart, effective up to 72 hours after intercourse.

There is some evidence that a single 240 mg dose is more effective than a split dose taken throughout the day, though part of the effect may be a higher rate of compliance with the regimen rather than physiologic effects.
